Perry's Emporium (2520 Independence Blvd.) hosted this special holiday
fundraiser! Once again, it was a fabulous year and guest enjoyed complimentary wine, hors d'oeuvres, and
shopped for sparkling gifts to give (or keep!). Allen Perry generously donated a
portion of the sales to CFLC.

Fundraiser was held Friday June 19th in the CFLC parking lot. Thanks to all
those that helped/supported CFLC with this event. You helped make it a success.
SCRABBLE SCRIMMAGE for LITERACY: The Third Annual
Scrabble Scrimmage for Literacy was held Saturday, May 16th at O'Charley's Resturant
and was a success. All skill levels participated. Participants were
sponsored by their
friends, families, fellow students, and/or co-workers. A big thanks goes
to Joan Denney and Mike Edmondson for organizing this event.
23rd Annual Mardi Gras Fundraiser was held Saturday
March 7th at the Coastline Center- This year we reignited our traditional
fundraiser into a truly "new and improved" model. Our longtime Live Auction was
transformed into the Online Bid or Literacy Auction-with 100% online bidding.
Our Saturday event became a fun-filled "Casino" Night, complete with terrific
music by Category IV, a quality Silent Auction, delicious New Orleans fare by
Cinema Catering, and of course, the mock Las Vegas style games with raffle
prizes. "Casino" Night also included pulling the winning ticket for our $10,000
Cash Jackpot-the newest and most exciting component of this year's Mardi Gras.
We even had a New Orleans-style parade to get everyone in the mood-a new
tradition we will build on in years to come.
Over 200 guests enjoyed "Casino" Night and Silent Auction,
and over 60 bidders vied for the 40 online auction items. We can confidently say
that a good time was had by all! Many thanks to the hundreds of CFLC
supporters who make this event a success: the leadership planning team,
sponsors, auction-item-donors, vendors who donated products or services,
volunteers, and the hundreds who bought Jackpot or "Casino" Night tickets.
A special thanks to Sunrise Broadcasting and its family of
stations, which provided amazing PR support of the event, including sharing
Craig Thomas and Sheila Brothers of Sunny 104.5. Craig and Sheila along with
WECT/Fox's Jon Evans and Kim Ratliff, plus Alan Perry of Perry's Fine Jewelry,
added celebrity glitz to "Casino" Night.
A special congratulations to ESOL Tutor, F. Schulz pulling
the $10,000 Jackpot ticket

RECENT PUBLICITY (updated 7/27/2009)
Sunrise Broadcasting is the most amazing, community-focused media
group! Their six stations-Jammin 99.9, Sunny 104.5, Z-107.5, Surf 98.3,
La Gran D 98.7, and ESPN AM 630- have been airing literacy spots
to help increase awareness of CFLC services for the last 6 months. Nearly
all students who walk in our door these days say that they heard about CFLC
