Star-News – Bookmarks: The buzz on the 2015 Spelling Bee

The folks at the Cape Fear Literacy Council are rounding up a few last-minute teams for its 28th annual Spelling Bee for Literacy, coming up at 7 p.m. Sept. 17.

Some changes are coming to the venerable fundraiser. The Literacy Council is moving the event to The Terraces at Sir Tyler, 1826 Sir Tyler Drive (across Military Cutoff Road from Mayfaire Town Center).

Crowds at the event had outgrown the parking space at Pine Valley United Methodist Church. (One side benefit: This year, the literacy council can offer a cash bar.)

Teams are being expanded. Businesses, non-profits and clubs can have up to four spellers on each team. In addition to spelling abilities, they’ll compete for honors for Best Costume, Best Team Name and Best Cheering Section.
